Mythical Play is a transformative group exploration, in which we listen to a particular tale or myth, and then look within, where the story has relevance for our lives. After a short contemplation, we are encouraged to follow our intuitive pull and play one of the story’s characters.
At first glance the figures of myths or fairy tales don’t have anything to do with our modern life dynamics. But the personal and universal themes, the vast play of life and death, love and separation, illusion or self-realization, are all manifested in the great body of mythological literature.
Upon our initial listening, we often believe we know what the story is all about, but once we are in the role, the archetypal currents take over and play with us in unforeseen ways. Through the dynamic interactions, we are touched in the depth of our humanness, and gain greater awareness of the forces at play.

As familiar perspectives of life, and habitual ways of experiencing ‘self’ and ‘other’ begin to shift and loosen, we have the chance to assimilate unacknowledged parts of our self (‘the shadow’), and to harmonize with the undivided essence of all.
This ‘bringing to light’ can evoke a whole range of feelings and surprising insights, while the invisible thread of the story exudes its own healing potion, offering an acceptance, and a shared container for all. Both during and after the play there is ample digestion space where, under the guidance of the facilitator, revelations can be held in the heart and shared with each other.
Mythic Play can be facilitated as group process in several hours up to a full day format. If you are interested in bringing Mythic Play to your area, please Contact us. |
